TRIAL ISSUE

6 November 2008

As B&MC readers will know, Midwinter Lucie was released in a trial issue for testing in schools five months prior to official publication of the first edition. One hundred copies were produced. Forty are (or were) still in the hands of schools, librarians and reviewers involved in this trial. Twelve were kept by the publisher; the remainder were pulped.

Of the 12 mint copies one has been sold (and 25% of the proceeds donated to the NSPCC), one stolen, and the remainder are either with the publisher or have been given to people closely connected with this book.

Until now, there were no copies available to collectors or the public.

However, we have recently received eight copies back from one of the schools in which the book was trialled. All show some signs of wear and of reading, but none are at below 'very good' condition. None are marked internally and have tight bindings and original trial dust jackets showing no more than very light scuffing and shelf-wear. We are told that these copies were read in school and therefore have not suffered the rigors of school-bags and lockers! They are identifiable as copies having been used in the trials by a sticker on the front free end paper.

We are offering these copies for sale here on a first-come first-served basis at the price of £50.00 each.

TRIAL ISSUE @ £50.00 per copy

25 November: SOLD OUT

NOTE: These are NOT part of the 12 mint publisher copy stock. If you find copies being offered for sale elsewhere it is highly unlikely that they are from that batch of 12 mint copies. The 'used' copies such as offered here can easily be identified by the 'proof copy' sticker on the front free end paper. If in doubt regarding the provenance of books being offered to you, feel free to contact us - in most cases we will be able to tell you which batch they come from.

NEW BOOK... 'THE BLACK PEAR'... published 16 March 2009

2 February 2009

'Run' has been postponed until late 2009, but Alan's fantastic new ghost story, 'The Black Pear' is coming!

In terms of print runs, the plan is:

  • 100 (limited edition) signed, dated and numbered copies, to be issued in a slipcase.
  • 500 'ordinary' hardback first edition, to be run in one printing which will not be repeated. These will be signed on demand but will NOT be lined, dated or otherwise made unique
  • 2000 paperback first editions, to be run in one printing, and will be reprinted as required

We anticipate being able to sell the entire limited edition of 100 prior to publication - so you should get the book up to two weeks before the 'ordinary' editions hit the shops. As was the case with Midwinter Lucie, Alan will be doing as few bookshop signings as he can get away with, so signed copies, whether 'limited editions' or 'ordinary' hardbacks will again be at a premium.

* We had many requests from customers wanting update emails regarding Alan's work. It seems that quite a few people have not received the emails we sent out. Please ensure that your spam filter is set to ALLOW emails from Eyelevel Books, or you might miss out!

"a very strong debut... it’s well worth investing in a
first edition hardback before they sell out. Even if
Midwinter Lucie fails to hold or increase its value,
you’ll have an exciting read."
